Call for applications: Dutch Fashion Designer for Thais Silk fashion show – Deadline for submission 12 July

The Netherlands Embassy in Bangkok is looking for a Dutch fashion designer to participate in the 8th Celebration of Silk in Thailand organized by the Thai Tourism Foundation. The participant will get a chance to showcase his/her unique design in Thai silk and represent the Netherlands in the International Thai Silk fashion Week. The experience will include commercial and media exposure, expanding your international network and knowledge and cultural exchange in Thailand.

About the project

The Thai Tourists Assistance Foundation, has organized the Celebration of Silk project to showcase modern and traditional Thai silk and design since 2010. The project included design seminars, university lectures, commercial displays and a nationally televised fashion show in honor of H.M Queen Sirikit of Thailand.

The 8th Celebration of Silk will then be divided into 3 parts:

– Opening Ceremony/Fashion Show, 1 December 2018

– The 1st International Thai Silk Fashion Week, 2-4 December 2018

– International Silk Exhibition 2-9 December 2018

What will be expected?

– Besides fashion shows of Thai designers, international designers will get a chance to create his/her own collection of 12 pieces of Thai Silk costumes to participate in the International Thai Silk Fashion Week. Participants will be sent the Thai Silk to make their creations with.

Furthermore, the designer is requested to collaborate with its country’s Ambassador/Spouse of Ambassador to design a unique creation in Thai Silk to be modelled by the Ambassadors/Spouses during the Grand Opening Fashion Show on 1 December.


The fashion designer needs to be able to show a portfolio and have prior experience with making a fashion collection. Please include resume and motivation. Interested Dutch designers can submit his/her portfolio to the Embassy (email by 12 July 2018. The Embassy will select the designer by 31 July.

What will be offered?

Round-trip economy ticket to Bangkok, 5-day accommodation, meals, and local transportation and a honorarium of USD$1,000 will be provided to the participating designer.
